Diwali Pooja Essentials Checklist for Lakshmi Puja
Lakshmi Puja is the heart of Diwali night. Here's a simple checklist of the traditional brass essentials most households use, so nothing gets forgotten in the last-minute rush.
The essentials
- Diyas — at least one akhand diya for the main puja, plus smaller diyas for the space around it
- Puja thali — to hold kumkum, haldi, rice and flowers during the ritual
- Kalash / Lota — for the ceremonial water used during puja
- Dhoop daani — an incense holder for the dhoop or agarbatti
- Idols — a Lakshmi-Ganesha idol set is the traditional centrepiece of Diwali puja
- Kumkum and haldi containers — small dedicated containers keep these tidy for use through the festival
A tip on buying ahead
Brass pooja items don't expire or go out of style — buying your essentials a few weeks before Diwali (rather than in the last-minute rush) usually means better stock availability and no scrambling on Chhoti Diwali.
