What materials do you use?

We work with three primary metals:

  • Brass – An alloy of copper and zinc, known for its golden appearance, durability, and antimicrobial properties.
  • Copper – Pure copper, celebrated in Ayurveda for its health benefits, especially for storing and drinking water.
  • Bronze – An alloy of copper and tin, traditionally used in Indian kitchenware and known for its Ayurvedic benefits in cooking and serving food.

What is Kalai coating?

Kalai is a traditional tin lining applied to the interior of brass and copper cookware. It creates a food-safe surface, prevents reactions between the metal and acidic foods, and is a centuries-old Indian practice. Some of our products like the Lagaan Handi and Storage Jars feature this coating.

Are your products food-safe?

Yes. Our brass and copper products with Kalai (tin) lining are food-safe. Pure copper vessels are ideal for storing and drinking water. Bronze thali sets and cookware are traditionally used for serving and cooking food in Indian households.

What are the Ayurvedic benefits of using brass, copper, and bronze?

  • Copper: Drinking water stored in copper vessels overnight is believed to boost immunity, aid digestion, and balance the body's doshas.
  • Brass: Naturally antimicrobial; believed to improve digestion and overall wellness.
  • Bronze: Traditionally used in South Indian cooking and serving; believed to enhance the nutritional value of food.

Do the products come in different sizes?

How do I clean brass and copper products?

  • Hand wash with mild soap and a soft cloth.
  • Avoid dishwashers, harsh scrubbers, or abrasive cleaners.
  • Dry immediately after washing to prevent water marks.
  • Polish occasionally with lemon and salt or a metal cleaning powder like Pitambari to restore shine.

How do I care for Kalai-coated products?

  • Hand wash gently — avoid scrubbing the interior Kalai lining.
  • Do not use harsh chemicals or steel wool inside.
  • If the Kalai lining wears off over time, it can be re-applied by a local tinsmith (kalaigar).

How do I care for bronze products?

  • Hand wash only with mild soap.
  • Dry with a soft cloth immediately after washing.
  • Polish with lemon and salt or a bronze cleaner for extra sparkle.
  • Keep away from prolonged moisture.

Will my brass or copper product tarnish over time?

Yes, brass and copper naturally oxidise and develop a patina over time — this is completely normal and adds to the vintage charm. Regular polishing with lemon and salt or Pitambari powder will restore the original golden shine.
